Surf Life Saving Canterbury (SLSC) is the district body for twelve Surf Lifesaving Clubs from Taylors Mistake to Waikuku Beach in Canterbury, two Clubs on the West Coast, one Club in Marlborough and one Club in Nelson.

We are a non-profit, volunteer based organisation committed to the prevention of death by drowning and injury in the aquatic environment.

The followingpurpose statement will lead the District into the future:

Mission:
'Prevent drowning and injury at Canterbury beaches'.

Vision:
'Surf Life Saving Canterbury will be recognised regionally, nationally and internationally for its excellence in surf life saving and sports'.

Surf Life Saving Canterbury currently provides support to our member clubs through:

  • Lifeguarding and Development Courses
  • School and Public Education Programmes
  • Surf Sport Programmes
  • Forums for Lifeguarding research and development
  • Provision ofResources
  • Clubs Advocate

Membership of a Surf Lifesaving Club is open to anybody regardless of age, race, colour, religion or sex. There are currently over 1500 members in Surf Life Saving Canterbury, of which 470 are active Lifeguards.

Structure

Surf Life Saving Canterbury has a Governance Board of4 Directors and the Chairperson. SLSC staff work from their office located at Level 2, 151 Worcester St, Christchurch.
